A high-performance rental request is reviewed more closely than a simple availability enquiry, and the requirements are stricter for good reason: the vehicle, the insurance and the exposure are all greater. Preparing accurate information reduces unnecessary back-and-forth and speeds up the only thing that matters — a clear, confirmed rental.
Use the driver who will actually drive
Provide the correct age, country of residence and preferred language for the person who will sit behind the wheel. The final review may also require licence issue date, licence category, years held, identity documents and payment-card information through an appropriate secure process. A newly issued licence or a recent change of address can affect eligibility or require additional documentation, so mention it early rather than at the handover.
Describe the route
Cross-border travel, mountain destinations and event access can affect insurance, equipment, mileage and delivery. A complete route is more useful than a city name alone: stating “Geneva to Verbier and back, no border crossings” is far easier to review than “a trip to the mountains”. If you intend to drive into France, Italy or Austria, say so explicitly, because cross-border use usually needs prior written approval on the rental documents.
Treat the deposit separately from the rental price
A security deposit is not the same as the rental charge. It is an authorisation held against a card and released afterwards, subject to the card issuer’s own timing. Confirm the amount, accepted payment method (debit authorisations and credit pre-authorisations behave differently), authorisation timing and release process in the final documents, and make sure the card you plan to use supports the hold.
Think about insurance and excess
Coverage, the excess amount and any options to reduce it are set out in the final rental documents. A credit-card insurance or a third-party policy is not automatically accepted as a replacement for the rental company’s cover; check what the rental requires before relying on your own arrangement.
Wait for explicit confirmation
A reference number proves that a request was recorded. It does not prove that the vehicle is reserved, that the price is fixed, or that the rental exists. Build travel plans, hotel bookings and onward connections around a confirmed rental, not around form submission.
